Gattis looks to be in line to man left field for the Braves this season following Friday's trade of Justin Upton to the Padres, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports.
Despite the lack of range Gattis has shown in left field in the past, the Braves seem content to take the defensive hit if it means getting the 28-year-old's powerful bat into the lineup. He collected 40 extra-base hits in just 401 plate appearances in 2014, and without the rigors of spending most of his time catching, there's a good chance he'll be able to stay healthier and pick up more at-bats. Barring another trade for an outfielder, it appears that Gattis will be locked into left field in close to a full-time role while Christian Bethancourt assumes the primary backstop duties.
