Ventura allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits, walking one and striking out six over seven innings of a 4-2 loss to Boston on Friday night.
Ventura (12-10, 3.27 ERA) pitched reasonably well, but he was the victim of some sloppy fielding, and his own command issues (he hit two batters and tossed a wild pitch that brought a runner home). His mastery of the strike zone still comes and goes, but he has electric stuff and will continue to improve. An interesting note: Yoenis Cespedes stole a base in the third inning and it was the first stolen base attempt against Ventura this season - spanning 176 innings. He'll get the White Sox at home next time out.
