Gomez earned his first career save Saturday against the Cardinals. He needed 13 pitches to slam the door in a perfect 11th inning that featured a pair of line-outs and a fly-out.
Gomez was the seventh and final hurler for the Bucs in this one, as the visitors burned through traditional closers in Mark Melancon and Ernesto Frieri (among three others from their bullpen) in the extra-inning affair. The 26-year-old now has a 3.45 ERA and 1.33 WHIP in 28 appearances (44.1 innings) this season.
