Chatwood (elbow) will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery next week, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.
Expected be an anchor for the Rockies rotation for years to come after going 8-5 with a 3.15 ERA in his age-23 season, Chatwood made just four starts with the big club in 2014 and now looks primed to miss the majority of the 2015 campaign. He was originally diagnosed in a right flexor strain and elbow tightness after landing on the DL in late April, but the injury proved more severe when he was unable to complete his live batting practice session last week. The Tommy John surgery will mark the second time Chatwood has had the procedure, after first going under the knife as a 16-year-old in high school. The loss of Chatwood further puts the starting pitching corps in shambles, with Jhoulys Chacin (shoulder) also likely out for the season and Eddie Butler and Jordan Lyles also on the DL.
