Lucroy will spending more time getting reps at first base during spring training as an option to handle the position against left-handed starting pitchers, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
The addition of Adam Lind provided a much-needed upgrade to the Brewers' first-base situation, but Lind's career splits against lefties dictate that he should be platooned. As a result, Lucroy could continue to see more playing time than most catchers, while receiving some rest from defensive responsibilities behind the plate. A few more games at first base would also open up more at-bats for backup catcher Martin Maldonado, though Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said that Lucroy may see approximately 25 games at first base in 2015, a slight increase from the 19 games he logged at the position last season.
