Scherzer declined the Tigers' $15.3 million qualifying offer Monday, Chris Iott of MLive.com reports.
Scherzer wasn't expected to accept the offer, as he should easily command more money on the open market. The 29-year-old starter posted a 3.15 ERA and 1.18 WHIP with 252 strikeouts in 220.1 innings en route to an 18-5 record last season. He will likely have several teams vying for his services in the offseason, as he should be one of the top starting pitchers on the market in free agency.
