Shields (9-6) gave up two runs (one earned) on six hits, with four walks and five strikeouts over six innings Tuesday, but ended up getting the loss against the Twins.
Shields had only walked three batters over his last four outings, so the four free passes on Tuesday were a disappointment. He really struggled throughout this one, and was fortunate to leave with just one earned run allowed. While he was able to get through six innings, he needed a whopping 124 pitches (77 strikes) to do so, working out of a bases loaded, one-out situation in the fifth inning. He'll have a tough task in his next start, as he'll be facing off against the A's in Oakland on Sunday.
