Maxwell has accepted his assignment to Triple-A Omaha, Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports.
Maxwell was designated for assignment by the Royals early last week, and after clearing waivers, had until Thursday to decide whether to accept the designation or become a free agent. It sounds like he's decided to remain within the Royals' organization, where he'll continue to serve as organizational outfield depth. He was a .316 hitter over 25 games for Triple-A Omaha this season, but went just 6-for-40 at the dish during his time in the majors. When the Royals signed veteran Raul Ibanez to a major league deal, there simply wasn't enough room on the roster to retain the services of Maxwell. He'd need a rash of injuries or other unforeseen circumstances to see the majors again this season.
