Rodriguez has undergone season-ending knee surgery, Enrique Rojas of ESPNDeportes.com reports.
The procedure officially spells an end to a miserable 2014 campaign that ultimately resulted in Rodriguez's release in May. The knee issue seemed to bother Rodriguez during his six starts with the Pirates, as he was torched for 20 runs on 37 hits (10 homers) and eight walks over 26.2 innings. Rodriguez has a steady track record of production prior to this season, so if he can demonstrate that he's fully healthy heading into the winter, he should receive plenty of interest from teams to compete for a major league rotation spot in 2015.
