Simon (12-6) took a tough-luck loss Wednesday afternoon, allowing six hits, two earned runs and a walk with two strikeouts over seven innings.
Simon has ran into a bit of a rough patch of late, as he's lost three straight starts, despite not allowing more than three earned runs in any of those outings. He's only allowed more than three earned runs twice this season back in May, although his 4.36 FIP suggests that his 2.84 ERA may not necessarily be sustainable for much longer. Wednesday's start also brought Big Pasta's innings total up to 133 on the season, which is just two outs short of his career-high set back in 2011 with the Orioles. Fatigue may not yet be a concern for Simon and his 6-foot-6, 265 pound frame, but it's definitely a factor to monitor down the stretch, especially if the Reds find themselves in the playoff hunt. Simon will take the hill in search of his first win since July 9 next Monday against the Indians.
