Guthrie (6-9) gave up five runs on 10 hits, walking two and striking out four over 5.2 innings to pick up a win over the Indians on Saturday.
All of the damage happened in a five-run second inning in which the Indians brought 11 hitters to the plate. Guthrie would end up needing 46 pitches to get out of the inning, surrendering six hits, including a home run and two doubles. He'd settle down after that, pitching 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing his team to come back and to eventually get the lead for him. The win helped snapped a three-game losing streak for Guthrie, whose last win came on June 23. He ends up finishing July with a 1-3 record and an ugly 10.07 ERA over 19.2 innings. He'll have a tough matchup next time out as he squares off against the A's in Oakland.
