Cabrera (ankle) is out of the lineup Sunday against the White Sox, MLB.com's Jason Beck reports.
Cabrera's lingering ankle injury forced him out of the second game of Saturday's doubleheader prematurely, and according to MLive.com's Chris Iott, the Tigers believe the issue could persist the rest of the season. After Saturday's game, manager Brad Ausmus acknowledged that he'd like to give Cabrera four or five consecutive days off to rest the ankle before the end of the campaign, though that might not be an option with the Tigers still fighting for their playoff lives. Even if he's forced to miss less time, it's clear at this point that Cabrera has been playing at diminished strength, as reflected by his numbers this season. He's in the midst of a 1-for-19 stretch at the plate that has dropped his season average to .299, the first time since 2008 that Cabrera has carried a .300 batting average after mid-May.
