Choo has a bone spur in his left elbow and is done for the season, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Jeff Wilson reports.
He has been dealing with bone spurs since spring training, and with the Rangers out of contention and Choo dealing with pain, surgery made sense. Michael Choice has been recalled from Triple-A, and he will presumably get some chances at designated hitter. It was basically a lost season for Choo, as he posted just a .242 average with 13 home runs and three steals in 123 games. Much of his struggles have been attributed to playing through injury, so there's a chance he could rebound if he's healthy for the start of the 2015 season. He will have surgery as soon as Friday, if the flu he's dealing with has cleared out.
