Beckett lasted just 3.2 innings Tuesday, giving up four earned runs on six hits -- three of them homers -- while striking out four in a no-decision against the Pirates. He did not issue a walk.
After retiring the side in the first inning, Neil Walker and Ike Davis of the Bucs took Beckett deep in the second before Gregory Polanco and Walker tacked on two more runs in the third with another homer and a double. The veteran hadn't tossed since July 6 after missing a couple starts with a hip injury, so some rust was expected, but owners would prefer him to keep the ball in the ballpark. Beckett will have his work cut out for him in his next start Tuesday versus the Braves at Dodger Stadium -- a yard he's posted a 1-5 record at this season.
