On Wednesday, Jackson went 2-for-5 and cleared the bases with a double in the top of the fourth, giving the Tigers a 6-0 lead en route to an 11-5 victory over the Diamondbacks.
"(Trevor) Cahill, he had that good sinker working today and he was kind of jamming guys a little bit," Jackson told FOX Sports Detroit's John Keating on the field after the game. "I wanted to get a good pitch to hit, had the bases loaded right there, wanted to get a good pitch to hit, put a good swing on it and was able to hit a double."
Jackson now has a career-best six consecutive multi-hit games and has 11 multi-hit games in his last 12.
"His bases-loaded double and his double in the ninth were both big," Ausmus told Keating. "He's been swinging the bat outstanding for shoot, since Houston, I don't know how long ago that was, it must have been about a month now."
In his last 10 games, Jackson's hitting .452 with 10 runs scored and 10 RBI.
"He's really hitting with some outstanding timing now," FOX Sports Detroit analyst Craig Monroe said. "He's hitting with good rhythm. He's getting that front foot down extremely early, went back to the toe tap, simply places his front foot down with his hands back, it allows him to do what he's doing."
The numbers speak for themselves.
When batting leadoff, Jackson's average is .341, his on-base percentage is .371, his slugging percentage is .537 and his runs per game is 0.85
When batting in other spots, Jackson's average is .247, his on-base percentage is .313, his slugging percentage is .365 and his runs per game is 0.47.
"He is comfortable hitting in that leadoff spot," Monroe said. "Again, he has conditioned his mind to be the catalyst at the top over the last few years. Now that Brad Ausmus has enough confidence to put him back there, we're getting a chance to see the results of it. He has been on a flat-out tear here lately.
"This is exactly what the Tigers needed for Austin Jackson to be doing in the second half of the season."
Now all the Tigers need is for Jackson to just keep doing what he's been doing.
