DETROIT – The NHL released the schedule for the 2012-13 season and there’s good news for Red Wings fans who like to see Original Six foes.
In addition to hosting the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Winter Classic January 1 at Michigan Stadium and welcoming the Chicago Blackhawks twice (February 13 and March 31), the Wings will also play the Montreal Canadiens, Boston Bruins and New York Rangers at Joe Louis Arena.
The Bruins are first in December 10, the Canadiens will play January 30 and the Rangers are in Detroit March 20.
The Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings come to town November 29.
Other opponents of note that visit Detroit are Martin Brodeur and the New Jersey Devils on November 15, Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins on November 19 and Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals on December 7.
The first west coast swing takes place at the end of October-beginning of November with stops in Winnipeg, Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton.
On November 24, the Wings visit Steve Yzerman and the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The second west coast trip takes place in January, stopping first in Chicago January 6, then on to San Jose, Los Angeles, Anaheim and Phoenix.
In March, the Wings have a quick Canadian swing to Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver.
It all starts Friday, October 12 when the Red Wings host the Nashville Predators at home for their season opener.
