Michigan went just 1-1 last week, including a heartbreaking loss to Wisconsin, but they still get another award.
Mitch McGary won the Big Ten Freshman of the Week award for the second time, the conference announced Monday. McGary averaged 13.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals off the bench in a pair of overtime games — a win over Ohio State and the loss to the Badgers.
McGary has been huge for Michigan in recent weeks, as Jordan Morgan and Jon Horford have struggled with injuries. He’s also been able to avoid the freshman slump that has hit both Nik Stauskas and Glenn Robinson III as the Wolverines have lost two of their last three after a 20-1 start.
Michigan freshmen have now taken the award a conference-best seven times — three by Stauskas and two each for McGary and Robinson.
