James Ihedigbo out for Lions’ regular-season opener

DETROIT — Starting strong safety James Ihedigbo has been declared out for the Detroit Lions in Monday night’s regular-season opener against the New York Giants at Ford Field.

Ihedigbo, signed as an unrestricted free agent during the offseason, will be replaced in the lineup by Isa Abdul-Quddus, who is in his first season with the Lions after playing in 42 games over the last three seasons for New Orleans.

Ihedigbo returned to practice Friday on a limited basis after missing the final two preseason games because of knee and neck injuries. He was listed as "doubtful" on Saturday’s injury report.

The six other Lions who are inactive Monday include quarterback Kellen Moore, receivers Ryan Broyles and Kevin Ogletree, offensive tackle Cornelius Lucas, safety Don Carey and defensive end Larry Webster.
