FSD’s Trevor Thompson honored with Ty Tyson Award

FOX Sports Detroit’s Trevor Thompson was honored with the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association’s Ty Tyson Award of Excellence for Sports Broadcasting on July 13.

Trevor Thompson

Thompson is the fourth FOX Sports Detroit broadcaster to earn the award. George Blaha (2002), Ken Daniels (2010), Mario Impemba (2013) have also received this honor.

A member of the on-air team since June 2000, Thompson is a four-time Emmy winner. He serves as a host and reporter for Pistons, Red Wings and Tigers.

"I am humbled, yet thrilled to have won this year’s Ty Tyson Award and have my name on the same award as broadcasters I truly respect and admire, including Dan Dickerson, George Blaha, Ken Daniels, Mario Impemba and the late, great Ernie Harwell," said Thompson. "It doesn’t get much better than that!"

"We are so proud of Trevor," said Greg Hammaren, senior vice president and general manager of FOX Sports Detroit. "He certainly deserves this recognition. This latest Ty Tyson Award for FOX Sports Detroit announcers underscores the deep affection fans have for their favorite teams and the effort we put into each telecast. Congratulations, Trevor!"
