Some Detroit Lions fans wanted to blow up the whole team following a 4-12 season, starting with the firing of the coach and general manager.
Will you settle for a new playing surface?
The Lions announced Tuesday they are replacing the original FieldTurf that was installed at Ford Field when it opened in 2002 with an updated version for the 2013 season.
“Over the past 11 seasons, FieldTurf has provided us with a reliable and player-friendly surface to prepare and play,” team president Tom Lewand said. “We’re very excited to have FieldTurf upgrade their original surface at Ford Field and look forward to having one of the best and most durable NFL playing fields for years to come.”
The FieldTurf, which is also used at Michigan Stadium, features a mix of sand and rubber to create a synthetic surface considered as close as it gets to natural grass. The updated version is called FieldTurf Classic HD.
The installation is expected to be completed by late February.
