While the National Hockey League is back in full swing, a couple of American Hockey League teams were fully swinging at each other late last week.
A Jan. 19 brawl between the Grand Rapids Griffins (the Detroit Red Wings' AHL affiliate) and Rockford IceHogs (
Chicago Blackhawks) resulted in 192 penalty minutes and 13 ejections.
On Tuesday, the league handed down six suspensions. Two players — the Griffins'
Louis-Marc Aubry and IceHogs'
Rob Flick — received lengthy six-game suspensions for the fight, which took place midway through the second period of an 11-6 Griffins victory.
In a colorful twist, Rockford wore pink sweaters during the game for breast-cancer awareness.
