KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Miguel Cabrera is in the Detroit Tigers' starting lineup for their regular-season finale Wednesday night in Kansas City as he closes in on baseball's first Triple Crown in 45 years.
Cabrera began the day leading the American League in batting average at .331, home runs with 44 and RBIs with 139. The Angels' Mike Trout was seven points back in the race for the batting crown, while the Rangers' Josh Hamilton was one homer back.
Meanwhile, Max Scherzer, who was initially ruled out of his start against the Royals after suffering a twisted ankle in the on-field celebration Monday, now appears to be taking the mound tonight.
After today's final regular season game, the Tigers will open up the American League Division Series on Saturday at 6:07 p.m. EDT. Their opponent is still to be determined.
