Alberto Contador to ride in Vuelta after crash in Tour de France

Alberto Contador will be back in action in Spain.

Alberto Contador says he will compete in the Spanish Vuelta after recovering from a fall that forced him to withdraw from the Tour de France.

The Spanish five-time grand tour winner fractured his right shin in a crash during the 10th stage of the Tour on July 15.

He had originally said it would be very difficult for him to recover in time for the three-week Vuelta, which starts on Aug. 23.

Contador says he has been training for 10 days and has no pain in his leg.

Even so, he says he won’t be a contender for the overall victory but that ”maybe in the last week I can fight for a stage win.”
