Olympic and world time-trial champion Fabian Cancellara has arrived in Spain for the Spanish Vuelta after being hospitalized in Switzerland following a severe allergic reaction to a bee sting.

The Swiss rider posted pictures of himself on Twitter receiving oxygen and with one eye almost closed by swelling. He said it was the second bee sting he had had in recent days, which made it worse.

Cancellara was released after six hours and was able to join his team in Benidorm late Thursday. The race begins with a team time trial on Saturday.

Cancellara's Leopard Trek team for the Vuelta does not include brothers Andy and Frank Schleck, who were second and third at the Tour de France.
