MOHALI, India (AP) Australia captain Steven Smith won the toss Sunday and decided to bat against India in a World Twenty20 game that will decide which team advances to the semifinals behind Group 2 winner New Zealand.
Both teams remained unchanged in what is a virtual quarterfinal after Australia had a 21-run win over Pakistan here on Friday to tie with India on two wins from three games.
Australia beat Bangladesh while losing to New Zealand, which finished with four wins in the five-team group.
India, which came into the tournament with 10 wins in 11 previous T20 games, opened with a shock 47-run loss to New Zealand before beating Pakistan and Bangladesh.
The last time India and Australia met in a world event in India was the 2011 World Cup quarterfinal, which India won on its way to taking the title.
The winner of this game will play the West Indies in the semifinal in Mumbai on Thursday.
