Sri Lanka bowls first in opening T20 against India

PUNE, India (AP) Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal won the toss Tuesday and decided to bowl first against India in the first Twenty20 of a three-game series.

India, in fine T20 form with a 3-0 win in a recent bilateral series in Australia, has rested premier batsman Virat Kohli for this series.

Reigning World Twenty20 champion Sri Lanka is here without the experience of pace bowler Lasith Malinga and all-rounders Angelo Mathews and Nuwan Kulasekara. Tillkaratne Dilshan also has been ruled out of the first game due to a hand injury.

Both teams will be using this short tour as well as the Asia Cup tournament in Bangladesh from Feb. 24-March 6 to prepare for the World Twenty20 in India from March 8-April 3.
