NZ 238-5 in reply to India's 318

KANPUR, India (AP) India's bowlers took four wickets in Saturday's opening session to reduce New Zealand to 238-5 at lunch on day three in response to the host's first innings of 318.

With spin from both ends, India made an early double strike. Tom Latham (58) was trapped lbw by Ravichandran Ashwin (2-86) and in the next over Ravindra Jadeja (2-69) had Ross Taylor lbw for a duck in a contentious decision.

Ashwin made the key breakthrough by bowling Kane Williamson (75), who had no chance as the ball turned sharply off the surface.

Mitchell Santner and Luke Ronchi stabilized the innings, before Ronchi was dismissed lbw to Jadeja just before lunch in another dubious decision.

Santner (28 not out) and B.J. Watling (3 not out) will resume after lunch.
