Impressing in the minors for the Indians

Carolina pitcher Ryan Merritt has been named Indians Minor League Player of the Week.
The left-hander pitched a complete game in the nightcap of a doubleheader last Monday against Frederick. The left-hander allowed a run, which was unearned, on four hits with four strikeouts and no walks.
Merritt has allowed just one earned run in 24 1/3 innings this season and leads the Carolina League in ERA (0.37) and WHIP (0.82). Dating back to an April 11 start at Potomac, Merritt has gone 14 2/3 innings without allowing an earned run. His ERA is also the lowest among starters in the Indians' system.
A 16th-round pick by the Indians in 2011, Merritt started 25 games between Lake County and Carolina last season and had the fourth-best ERA (3.52) in the Indians' system.
