TAMPA, Fla. (Feb. 12, 2014) -- On Friday, Feb. 14th at 7:30 p.m., Sun Sports, the statewide television home of the Tampa Bay Rays, will debut the "Inside the Rays: Off Season Special," updating Rays fans on all the off-season baseball news for their favorite hometown team.
Hosted by Todd Kalas, along with features by Orestes Destrade and Kelly Nash, the show will highlight the arrivals of Catcher Ryan Hanigan and Pitcher Heath Bell, as well as the re-signing of First Baseman James Loney and the return of Closer Grant Balfour.
The work done by players and the entire organization is also profiled, from Manager Joe Maddon's annual Thanksmas, to the charity work by Pitcher Chris Archer and his foundation in his hometown of Clayton, North Carolina. Also, the volunteer efforts of so many throughout the entire organization, from Principal Owner Stuart Sternberg on down, helped in building a new playground at Union Academy Family Center in Tarpon Springs.
"Dinner with Zobrist & Friends," hosted by Ben and featuring David Price, Alex Cobb and Chris Archer, was attended by over 1,100 people. The dinner and event celebrated the 21st annual induction ceremony for the Ted Williams Museum, which included former Rays James Shields and Johnny Damon, as well as Tampa native Dwight "Doc" Gooden. Zobrist and his wife Julianna also wrote a book during the off season. Titled "Double Play", the book offers a personal look at the Zobrist's family and career life. Third Baseman Evan Longoria was also busy, working with a team of ownership partners to open Ducky's Sports Lounge in Tampa.
Finally, Tropicana Field renovations and the creation of a 360-degree walkway around the lower bowl, are also spotlighted, as well as the introduction of the new Flex Packs, offering fans the flexibility to select the games of their choice and earn rewards throughout the season.
