Virginia Tech cornerback Antone Exum will reportedly not play in the season opener against Alabama.
According to ESPN.com, Exum has not been cleared to play as he continues to rehab his injured right knee. The report says that athletic trainer Mike Goforth told reporters that the call was made after Exum had a follow-up appointment with Dr. James Andrews, who performed his knee surgery.
He will have another exam in one-and-a-half to two months, according to the report, and could miss all of the September games.
Exum tore his ACL, lateral and medial meniscus, and fractured a bone in his knee during a pickup basketball game in January. Rehab from this type of injury generally takes eight to 12 months.
