FAMU to decide fate of famed band

Six months after the alleged hazing death of a drum major, members of Florida A&M University’s famed Marching 100 band could soon know when they might perform again.

The school suspended all band activities after 26-year-old Robert Champion died in November.

University president James Ammons is expected to discuss the band at a special meeting of the board of trustees on either Friday or Monday.

Eleven FAMU band members face felony hazing charges in Champion’s death. Two others face misdemeanor counts.

Champion died aboard a bus outside an Orlando hotel. An investigatin into his death revealed a culture of hazing within the band.
