Razorbacks rap video razor sharp
As I have mentioned before, as a member of the professional sports media, it is my social responsibility to get all crotchety when the occasion calls for it, and I have found another situation.
The first thing you should understand when undertaking the “rap video about your sports team” thing is that you WILL look like a dork. In most cases, this is because you actually are a dork, but in all the remaining cases it is because dorkiness is the only possible outcome of taking a musical genre that was born in the underground and trades on rebellion and applying it to a huge institution and a sport that trades on conformity.
It would be like making a heavy metal song about how awesome the Episcopal church is. The medium undercuts the message. (On the other hand, someone please do that).
Don’t take this as me trying to talk you guys out of this, now. If you know you’re going to look like a dork and you do it anyway, that’s a pretty respectable decision. So long as you know that’s what you’re signing up for.
Which brings me to Triple Threat.
We’ve all seen a lot of these kinds of videos by now. That so many exist is a testament to how easy it is to make a rap video these days. Most of these fan rap songs don’t have rapping as good as the rapping in “Never Yield” by Triple Threat. It’s one of the best efforts I’ve seen in the “sports team raps” genre.
So I hope you Arkansas fans appreciate this selfless, sacrificial act by your fellow Razorbacks.
