Drake doesn't travel for Penn St. bowl
Interim coach Tom Bradley said Tuesday that Drake, backup quarterback Paul Jones, wide receiver Shawney Kersey and cornerback Derrick Thomas would not travel to Dallas for the game Monday against Houston.
Bradley said Drake and Kersey were staying behind for personal reasons and that Jones and Thomas had academic issues.
"Basically, after the incident with me and Matt (McGloin), I was tired and I just needed to step back and take a break," said Drake, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.
"There was too much going on. There wasn't really one thing I can pinpoint, just a bunch of things, so I decided not to go."
Drake, a sophomore from Philadelphia, had five catches for 102 yards and a touchdown this season.
Bradley said last week that Drake and McGloin's punishment for the fight would be handled internally.
McGloin took responsibility for the Dec. 17 fracas, saying it began with words being exchanged in practice and escalated to punches in the locker room.
McGloin said he slipped and hit his head, resulting in him having a seizure and sustaining a concussion. McGloin, who started the final five games of the season for the Nittany Lions, was hospitalized briefly and has still not returned to practice.
