Williams rushed 19 times for 125 yards and two touchdowns, his most important score coming on an 18-yard run with 3:25 left to give Cal Poly the lead for good.
Cal Poly (4-0, 2-0 Big Sky) stayed perfect in its new-found conference, making its Big Sky debut last week with a 28-20 win over UC Davis.
Shortly after Andre Broadous gave the Mustangs a 28-17 lead with a 2-yard touchdown run with 3:54 remaining, North Dakota (3-2, 1-1) quarterback Marcus Hendrickson was sacked by Jake Irwin, fumbling the ball on the Fighting Sioux's 24. Sullivan Grosz recovered for Cal Poly, his second fumble recovery of the night, and two plays later, Williams scored, ending North Dakota's hope for a comeback.
