Baylor seeks to keep winning at La.-Monroe
MONROE, La. (AP)
''You're going to see two teams that are going to go out there and lay it on the line every snap,'' Berry said. ''It's going to be fast-break football like you've never seen before in terms of the speed of the game.''
Baylor will be looking to extend the nation's second-longest winning streak. The Bears (2-0) are winners of their last eight games dating back to last season and will look to improve upon a 13-1 overall record against Sun Belt teams.
Louisiana-Monroe (1-1) nearly won both of its first two games on the road against Southeastern Conference teams. The Warhawks are coming off an overtime loss at Auburn last Saturday after opening the season with an overtime upset of then-No. 8 Arkansas in Little Rock.
''Their fans are really excited, as they should be,'' Baylor coach Art Briles said of ULM. ''It'll be good for us too, because throughout the Big 12 we go to some really tough venues. We'll have to tighten up our focus a little bit, and it'll give us a good opportunity to bond prior to some of the road games we have in the Big 12.''
Despite the departure of Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III to the NFL, the Baylor offense is still one of the most productive units in the Big 12 through the first two games of the season. The Bears have scored 107 points and piled up 1,157 yards of total offense after victories over SMU and Sam Houston State.
Senior quarterback Nick Florence will be making his first-career start on the road as the Bears' quarterback and said he is looking forward to the challenge of taking on a Warhawks squad that has taken a pair of SEC teams into overtime.
''It's going to be fun,'' Florence said. ''They are a great ballclub. We're in the same boat. We get to go into their house with a packed stadium. It's going to be a lot of fun. It's a college atmosphere. That's why you love college football.
''We didn't play a great game on Saturday night (against Sam Houston), so I'm excited to get back out there Friday and not have to wait until Saturday. It'll be a little different, but we'll handle it well and we'll be ready to go.''
Louisiana-Monroe also Haas a high-powered offense led by quarterback Kolton Browning, who has helped the Warhawks average 31 points and 480 yards through their first two games.
''Baylor is a very good football team. It should be a very fun game,'' Berry said. ''Art Briles is a great coach, and I have tremendous respect for him. He does some unique things on offense and it's fun to watch. His guys are going to play the game the right way.
''They are going to play it hard, play it fast, and they are going to go for broke.''
