CFB 24 43 Top bowl game predictions 23372044 BCS Championship Game: Auburn vs. Oregon BCS+Championship+Game%3A+Auburn+vs.+Oregon CFB

A lot of fans are expecting a very high combined score for these two teams, but we don’t think that's going to happen. Oregon is a top-25 team in total defense and No. 14 in scoring defense. The Ducks give up an average 18.4 points per game while Auburn's defense gives up 24.5. Expect the Ducks to start out slow (as usual) and Auburn to try and capitalize on some stalled drives in the first half. The second half should be all Ducks, as the Tigers won't be able to contain the speed of Oregon's attack. Final score: Oregon 35, Auburn 24.

CFB 24 43 Top bowl game predictions 23357207 Fiesta Bowl: Oklahoma vs. UConn Fiesta+Bowl%3A+Oklahoma+vs.+UConn CFB

UConn's four losses were to Michigan, Rutgers, Louisville and Temple — not very impressive, to say the least. However, the Huskies are a running team and Oklahoma is fairly mediocre at stopping the run. The Sooners rank in the bottom half of all FBS' rushing defenses, giving up almost 158 rushing yards per game. On the flip side, Oklahoma is No. 4 in passing offense and UConn is ranked No. 44 in passing defense. Bottom line? Oklahoma will score quickly, and it will be difficult for the Huskies to play catch-up in a run-oriented offense. Final score: Oklahoma 42, UConn 14.

CFB 24 43 Top bowl game predictions 23372042 Rose Bowl: TCU vs. Wisconsin Rose+Bowl%3A+TCU+vs.+Wisconsin CFB

Wisconsin is happy to be here, Texas Christian probably is not. That could spell doom for the Horned Frogs. (Remember a disgruntled Alabama team against Utah in the Sugar Bowl two years ago?) The Horned Frogs' defense is ranked No. 1 in the country (11.4 points per game), but naysayers will argue "against whom?" Six bowl teams, that's whom. Wisconsin also has an impressive resume, beating four bowl teams. The Badgers and the Frogs are tied for fourth in scoring offense, but Wisconsin's defense is not close to TCU's in terms of points allowed. This one will be close. Final score: TCU 31, Wisconsin 28.

CFB 24 43 Top bowl game predictions 23372043 Orange Bowl: Stanford vs. Virginia Tech Orange+Bowl%3A+Stanford+vs.+Virginia+Tech CFB

The Cardinal and Hokies are fairly well matched, with both teams having a great rushing offense, strong scoring defenses and fairly equal turnover margins. The passing game is a different story, and if this is a closely contested game, Stanford’s Andrew Luck and his 70.2 passing percentage rates an edge over Tyrod Taylor's 60.6 percent. The key to the game is protecting the quarterback, and Stanford does it brilliantly, allowing a paltry 0.42 sack a game to the Hokies’ two per game. We expect Taylor to be running for his life. Final score: Stanford 42, Virginia Tech 24.

Sure, the passing game could be fun to watch with the Razorbacks' Ryan Mallett launching missiles. But the Buckeyes' passing defense is tight, giving up only 156.3 yards per game. It gets old, but once again Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel will play for field position and try to contain Arkansas' air show, and force the 65th-ranked rushing offense to run the ball against his stingy, fourth-ranked rushing defense. Will it work? As long as Tressel mixes things up and uses QB Terrelle Pryor's elusiveness in play actions and bootlegs, the Buckeyes should prevail. Final score: Ohio State 38, Arkansas 24.

CFB 24 43 Top bowl game predictions 23372048 Cotton Bowl: LSU vs. Texas A&M Cotton+Bowl%3A+LSU+vs.+Texas+A%26amp%3BM+ CFB

The Good: The Aggies and the Tigers have had challenging schedules (both among the 25 most difficult) and still managed to finish 9-3 and 10-2, respectively. The Better: Texas A&M and Louisiana State are capable of throwing up a minimum of 45 points. The Best: LSU’s Les Miles, the controversial, grass-eating, throw-caution-to-the-wind coach playing against a school steeped in military traditions and self-discipline. This will be a lollapalooza. Bring it. Final score: LSU 43, Texas A&M 42.

CFB 24 43 Top bowl game predictions 23372047 Chick-fil-A Bowl: South Carolina vs. Florida State Chick-fil-A+Bowl%3A+South+Carolina+vs.+Florida+State CFB

As one who predicted South Carolina would win the SEC East, I was a bit disappointed in the Gamecocks’ performance against Auburn in the SEC championship game. But I still think South Carolina needs to win this bowl for several reasons, not the least of which is recruiting. Florida State, in Year One of the post-Bowden era, got a shaky season from QB Christian Ponder, who's rehabbing from an injured elbow. Ponder will be held out of practices until after Christmas, according to the Orlando Sentinel, so let's go with a healthy Gamecocks QB Stephen Garcia vs. a rusty Ponder. Final score: South Carolina 28 Florida State 14.

Both Alabama and Michigan State, at one point in the season, had their eyes set on the BCS Championship Game. The Spartans blew their chance against Iowa, and Alabama blew its quest for a national title repeat by losing to Louisiana State after falling to South Carolina a month earlier. This bowl is about bragging rights between the Southeastern Conference and the Big Ten. Advantage: SEC. Alabama simply has more weapons and looks more balanced on both sides of the ball. Final score: Alabama 26, Michigan State 21.

We've been waiting for a reprise of the Catholics vs. the Convicts. The Fighting Irish ended their regular season with consecutive wins against Utah, Army and USC, the latter a huge monkey off their back. Miami was a potential national contender before the season, but after five losses— including the last two of the regular season — and the departure of head coach Randy Shannon, there is a bit of concern in the Sunshine State. We like the Irish continuing their momentum. Final score: Notre Dame 24, Miami 17.

CFB 24 43 Top bowl game predictions 23372046 Outback Bowl: Florida vs. Penn State Outback+Bowl%3A+Florida+vs.+Penn+State+ CFB

The experts are predicting a final hoorah for Urban Meyer's last game as Florida's head coach. Of course, the experts also thought Florida was a top-10 team. Penn State is a young team and was up and down until November. Although they lost twice late in the season, the Nittany Lions showed vast signs of improvement and gave Michigan State a great game. Penn State got better in November while the Gators did not. Despite this being an emotional game for Florida, we're going to go with Joe Pa squeaking out a win. Final score: Penn State 26, Florida 24.
