WVU’s Mitchell suspended indefinitely

West Virginia leading scorer Casey Mitchell has been suspended indefinitely for an undisclosed violation of team rules.

Coach Bob Huggins didn’t elaborate Monday in a statement announcing the suspension of the 6-foot-4 senior guard.

Mitchell recorded his first career double-double in Sunday’s 56-46 win over South Florida, finishing with 13 points and 14 rebounds. He is averaging 16.6 points and 3.6 rebounds this season.

Mitchell’s suspension came a day after forward Dan Jennings walked away from the bench in the second half of Sunday’s game. Huggins called Jennings’ exit ”inexcusable.”

Their absences would leave West Virginia with just eight scholarship players heading into Wednesday night’s game at No. 23 Louisville.
