Sources: UTEP’s Barbee to coach Auburn

UTEP coach Tony Barbee has taken the Auburn job.

According to multiple sources, Barbee has agreed to replace
Jeff Lebo at Auburn.

The Tigers gave the former UTEP coach a six-year contract
worth $1.5 million annually.

Barbee was 82-52 in his four-year tenure with the Miners and
he led the team to a 26-7 overall mark and a 15-1 record in
Conference USA this season.

Barbee, on paper, was expected to return nearly his entire
team – which lost to Butler in the first round of the NCA
tournament. However, sources told FOXSports.com that Derrick
Caracter will likely leave for the NBA.

Barbee takes over a Auburn team that failed to get to the
NCAA tournament in each of Lebo’s six seasons at the helm.

Barbee played and worked for Kentucky coach John Calipari. He
says the Tigers will “go right after” his mentor’s program.
