Yogi had mad mic skills in 6th grade
Kevin "Yogi" Ferrell showed some serious skills this past season as a freshman point guard starting at Indiana, helping the Hoosiers to the Big Ten title and a No. 4 ranking in the AP poll.
But as a sixth grader in his native Indiana he had mad skills on the mic, too, and boasted about where his ballin' would take him: "When I go to the NBA, you gon' see me."
But he didn't plan on going to IU:
"I wanna play for Duke," he rhymed, then said he didn't want to go there, but "I'm gonna go there anyway."
The video shows a 13-year-old Ferrell with the caption "Yogi Ferrell: The Future of Entertainment".
Channing Mitzell, who published the video, wrote this in the description:
"So I just found my computer from 6th grade and this video (from seven years ago) was on my hard drive. I have no idea how or why this was on here but I thought I'd share haha. If I remember correctly, back in 6th grade at Park Tudor we had a business fair (in Mr Weymuth's class) where every student had to sell a product...this was his product haha."
Ferrell raps about his family ("I got a cool dad and a cool mom/In a few years you gon' see me at the prom/I got two sisters and one bro/He ain't got no afro, you know") and his favorite foods ("My favorite cereal is Frosted Flakes/And my favorite kinda dinner is pizza and steak/With a couple milkshakes") in the 90-second song, which at one point turns into something of a public service announcement for hygiene and ends with this classic line:
"Wash your butt/In 10 minutes can you eat at Pizza Hut..."
Ferrell had to be a handful in locker room rap battles at Indiana, though departing star Victor Oladipo had some skills of his own:
But Oladipo had no defense against rhymes like these:
"Nicknamed Yogi, you know who it is/My sales are up in the showbiz/They got mad English, science and history/My rhymes are so tight it'll leave you in a mystery..."
Ferrell and the Hoosiers may have a tougher time next season, with Oladipo, Cody Zeller and Christian Watford not returning. FOXSports.com's Ken Davis doesn't have the Hoosiers in his post-draft deadline power rankings.
But how can they go wrong with a leader like this?
"My favorite color is blue/I'm into karate, a technique called kung fu/I love to go to church every day/We give money away/So they can put in their caché..."
