St. John's Sanchez granted extra year

Orlando Sanchez, a 6-foot-9 junior college transfer who did not play this season at St. John's while the NCAA reviewed his eligibility, has been granted a final season and will play for the Red Storm in 2013-14.
Sanchez, a native of the Dominican Republic who played two seasons at Monroe (N.Y.) Community College, attended classes at St. John's while waiting for the decision, which was announced Thursday, and is on track to graduate in the spring.
The NCAA's rule says that each year a student-athlete participates after their 21st birthday and before college enrollment counts as a year of eligibility.
