Maryland's Wilcox headed for NBA
COLLEGE PARK, Md.University of Maryland sophomore Chris Wilcox is leaving the school to become eligible for the NBA draft, the university announced Monday.
Wilcox's departure means the Terrapins will have only one
returning starter, point guard Steve Blake, from this year's
national championship team. The Terps are also losing seniors Juan
Dixon, Lonny Baxter and Byron Mouton.
Coach Gary Williams predicted Wilcox will have a great career as
"In college, he has displayed outstanding attitude and
character while continuing to improve his game and become a
complete player. He has outstanding athletic skills and as a
professional he will continue to develop his outstanding
potential," Williams said.
Wilcox was the Terrapins' third leading scorer this past year,
averaging 12 points per game, 7.1 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game.
Wilcox started the final 25 games of the season as Maryland went
23-2 to close out the season. Maryland (32-4) also won its first
outright regular season Atlantic Coast Conference title since 1980.
