Creighton 102, Davidson 92
OMAHA, Neb. (STATS) - Blossoming freshman Doug McDermott and unheralded sophomore Josh Jones both scored career highs Monday night to help Creighton outscore Davidson 102-92 in the quarterfinals of the College Basketball Invitational.
McDermott, who had 26 points Tuesday to lead the Bluejays (21-14) past San Jose State in their tournament opener, poured in 31 on Monday - 21 in the first half. Jones finished with 21 points, nearly 17 more than his season average, and junior guard Antoine Young added 22 for Creighton, which shot 51.7 percent.
The victory marked the first time the Bluejays scored 100 points or more since a 111-110 double-overtime victory over Bradley on March 1, 2008.
Davidson shot 53.1 percent but was plagued by foul trouble. Cohen fouled out, along with fellow starters Clint Mann and Tom Droney. Creighton got to shoot 43 free throws, making 36 of them.
The Bluejays advance to Wednesday's semifinals, which will be re-bracketed based on Monday's results.
