We have no idea if this guy has ever eaten a chicken slider in his life, but he seems like a good mascot for the event, being held Saturday in Tampa. The GameTime National Chicken Slider Eating Championship, along with The GameTime National Tex Mex Roll Eating Championship in Miami, will award $3,000 to the winners and two national competitive eating titles. Listed participants include All Pro Eating’s No. 2-ranked professional competitive eater, Eric “Silo” Dahl, who most recently obtained The National Lobster Roll Eating Champion title. Good luck topping that, December.

Can Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel of Germany hang on to his lead and spray more champagne as Formula One champ for the third straight year? Vettel has won four straight races in a season for the first time in his career and leads the drivers' championship by 13 points with three races to go. He is trying to join Juan Manuel Fangio and Michael Schumacher as the only men to win a hat trick of drivers' championships. Can Ferrari's Fernando Alonso end his reign?

Game On Dude is back to take another shot at winning the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic this weekend at Santa Anita. He is one of 180 horses, including eight defending or former champions, which were pre-entered Wednesday for the $25 million, 15-race Breeders' Cup world championships. Game On Dude was made the early 9-5 favorite in a field of 12 for the Classic, a race he led most of the way last year before being overtaken in the closing strides. This time he'll have home-field advantage running at Santa Anita, where the 5-year-old gelding is 5-0.

This is the time of year when stateside soccer shines. David Beckham and the Galaxy began their title defense Thursday night with a 2-1 win against Vancouver in the knockout round. Next they get rival San Jose and Chris Wondolowski, who broke the record for most goals this season, in the conference semifinals. That's already a rough road to MLS Cup. And the unique playoff format makes for a thrilling, unpredictable postseason.

GSP hasn't fought in a year and a half and will be testing his surgically repaired right knee for the first time, so UFC fans will be watching breathlessly.

October sure ended on a bum note for Miguel Cabrera, but the Tigers slugger can at least salvage some satisfaction with an AL MVP award — if the voters decide that winning the Triple Crown for the first time in 45 years is enough to deserve it. Angels rookie Mike Trout, whose sensational season has made this the most hotly debated award, already has been shorted this fall, failing to get a Gold Glove despite several highlight-reel catches in center this season.

Remember this scene last year when Tiger Woods made his putt on the 18th hole during the final round of the Chevron World Challenge, ending his two-year winless streak? It won't be the same drama this time, but everyone wants to see where Tiger's game is at, after a three-win season followed by struggles in the Ryder Cup and tournaments abroad. Tiger's defense of his own tourney title could be a preview of what's to come in 2013.

It wouldn't make history — Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt Sr. both have seven Cup titles — but Jimmie Johnson would be knocking on the door of NASCAR's immortals if he can hold on to his lead in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship. And it's as entertaining as ever. Just witness the opening adventures of the two superpowers. Kobe and Dwight's Lakers have inexplicably stumbled to a 0-2 start while LeBron and D-Wade got their rings on opening night, then got a grudge-match win over the Celtics with help from Ray Allen, who ditched Boston's Big Three for Miami's — and made enemies of his former teammates in the process. You don't have to wait long for the rematch of January's BCS national championship game. No. 1 Alabama visits Death Valley to face No. 5 LSU on Saturday at 5 p.m. And it should be another battle. With these bitter rivals battling for a playoff spot, this game could cement his Rookie of the Year campaign and drive the final nail into the coffin for Jason Garrett.
