(STATS) – FCS quarterfinalist Wofford will open its 2017 schedule with two Southern Conference games as part of coach Mike Ayers’ 30th season.
The Terriers, who announced an 11-game schedule on Wednesday, haven’t begun a season with a conference matchup since 1999, and their first two games in 2017 will be against Furman (and new coach Clay Hendrix) on Sept. 2 and at Mercer on Sept. 9.
Wofford will play five home games at Gibbs Stadium, including against fellow FCS playoff qualifiers Samford (Oct. 21, Homecoming) and Chattanooga (Nov. 4). The highlights of the road portion of the schedule are against two-time reigning SoCon champ The Citadel (Oct. 14) and South Carolina (Nov. 18).
In finishing 10-4 this season, the Terriers reached double-digit wins for just the fifth time in program history. Ayers is three wins shy of 200 at Wofford.
