Utah cornerback Dominique Hatfield suspended indefinitely

SALT LAKE CITY — The University of Utah is suspending cornerback Dominique Hatfield after he was charged last week with aggravated robbery and theft.

Utah football coach Kyle Whittingham said in a statement Monday that because of the serious nature of the accusations, Hatfield will be suspended indefinitely while they wait to see how the case plays out in court.

Authorities accuse Hatfield of robbing a man at knifepoint who planned to buy an Xbox game console from him. He is also accused of stealing and trying to sell cellphones.

Charging documents show Hatfield denied involvement in the robbery but acknowledged grabbing cellphones left around at parties by people who had been drinking.

Hatfield’s attorney, Greg Skordas, was not immediately available for comment.

The 20-year-old Hatfield is a junior from Los Angeles who started 10 games in 2014.
