The Texas A&M football team has had a busy offseason. With National Signing Day done and baseball season looming lets recap all that’s happened.

Closing out the 2016 Season

The season came to an end with a crushing loss to the Kansas State Wildcats at the V100 Advocare Texas Bowl. That loss, along with a rough November left Aggie fans with plenty of questions about the program.

For better or for worst, the 2016 season happened. We broke down everything from the key losses and the biggest wins. Sometimes, the best medicine for a long season is a good trip down memory lane. Finally, we took one last good look at the biggest moments of the 2016 season.

And when it was all said and done, no year is complete without a complete list of awards. From the freshman of the year to the team MVP, we hand out superlatives to the most deserving Aggies.

Coaching Changes

To help them climb the ladder, Kevin Sumlin took a fresh look at his coaching staff. Ultimately, it was time to make some changes. He removed head strength coach Larry Jackson and began the search for his replacement. Less than a week later, Sumlin tabbed Mark Hocke as the man in charge of the Aggies’ strength program in 2017 and beyond.

That wasn’t the only coaching vacancy filled this offseason. Texas A&M defensive back coach Terry Joseph left the program for North Carolina. He received an extension and reportedly an elevation in position. After the recruiting cycle had died down, the Aggies announced the hiring of new defensive backs coach Ron Cooper.

An Early Peek at 2017

As any overly zealous fan ought, there’s already a look ahead of next year’s schedule. Before the season starts there is going to be a lot of discussion concerning expectations. How many wins is enough in 2017? And what is the ceiling for the next installment of the Texas A&M football team?

Odds are already out for the next College Football Playoff Champion. The Aggies aren’t the favorite, but they’re higher up on the list than you might expect. If they want to make that jump, or maybe more realistically attempt to compete in the SEC West, the team is going to need a quarterback. Who is going to win the starting job in 2017?
