Despite recently decommitting from Tennessee, junior college defensive lineman Jonathan Kongbo is still very much considering the Vols as his final college destination. On Tuesday, new defensive coordinator Bob Shoop and defensive line coach Steve Stripling made the trip to the Northwest to visit the touted prospect.

The No. 1 ranked JUCO prospect in the nation and a five-star prospect, according to 247Sports, Kongbo recently released his top eight schools and put Tennessee at the top of his list. After receiving attention from several nationally elite programs, Kongbo backed off his Tennessee commitment to explore all of his new options.

The decommitment has not stopped Tennessee from recruiting one of the best prospects in the nation and the two appear to continue to have mutual interest in one another. Now having met the Vols’ new defensive coordinator and spending more time with the coach that would be his next position coach in Knoxville, is Kongbo warming back up to the Big Orange?

Immediately following Shoop’s hire at Tennessee, Kongbo sent out a tweet suggesting he approved of the hire:

We’ll find out soon enough if he intends to play for him or not. However, with an official visit to Alabama looming this weekend, if the defensive end doesn’t commit during the trip, the Vols have to feel good about their chances to sign Kongbo come National Signing Day.
