Heralded South Carolina running back Mike Davis has missed practice this week and is in question for the Gamecocks season opener, coach Steve Spurrier told SportsTalk Radio Network. According to multiple reports, Davis suffered a rib injury during practice on Saturday and has not practiced since that time.

While the junior told The State on Tuesday night that the injury was not serious, Spurrier pointed out in the radio interview that "he hasn’t practiced all week."

"I don’t know if he’ll even be able to start," Spurrier said on the radio show.

Spurrier and the players were not available to media on Wednesday, but the coach is scheduled to meet with reporters later Thursday.

Davis, who has been mentioned as a Heisman Trophy candidate, had 11 touchdowns last season.
