Maurice Clarett’s football career may be over, but the former Ohio State star still might have a shot at some glory — as a rugby player.
Clarett will be playing with the Columbus affiliate of Tiger Rugby on Saturday at The Ohio Rugby Sevens Invitational in Mechanicsburg, according to the Columbus Dispatch. Tiger Rugby is the developmental program that will be used to help select members of the first-ever U.S. national team for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Clarett, who rushed for 1,237 yards in his only season at Ohio State in 2002, is just 29 and looks like he’s in good shape.
But he played his last meaningful football for the UFL’s Omaha Knighthawks in 2010, and even then, was just a shell of his former self, rushing for 154 yards on 37 attempts that season.
