Former Baylor University defensive lineman Shawn Oakman was indicted Wednesday by a McLennan (Texas) County grand jury on a second-degree felony sexual assault charge, according to multiple reports.

The school’s all-time sacks leader, Oakman, 24, went undrafted in late April after he was accused of sexually assaulting a Baylor student and arrested on April 3.

Oakman, who graduated in December, has maintained that his relationship with the student was consensual. His attorney reiterated that stance to the Waco Tribune on Wednesday:

Oakman’s case was one of a series of alleged assaults involving football players at Baylor dating back to 2009. The program’s handling of those incidents came to light in an independent investigation this spring that cost former coach Art Briles his job in May. Ex-Wake Forest coach Jim Grobe has stepped in on an interim basis until the school hires a long-term replacement for Briles, who had won 50 games in the past four seasons.
